A size 16 model

One of my pet gripes is the way the fashion industry usually features skinny models who look like they have an eating disorder and need to eat a good meal.

That's why I like these pictures of a size 16 model, Robyn Lawley, modeling bras and panties and saying she's normal and that women her size shouldn't be called plus size. She said the skinny women should be called minus size. The obsession with skinny models also sends a bad message to young women who are healthy but feel they should lose weight.

Since I think women should be curvy, it'd be a positive step if the fashion industry would feature more models who look the way most women look. Here's the link:

I will be interested in your comments.

  1. Adele Haze just posted about a vintage pin-up girl who was not the usual skin-and-bones. You might give it a look. :)

  2. camera add 10 lbs. She in no way looks like a size 16. She looks smaller. (not saying she is lieing, just saying I think when a size # is added the minds perception expects much different). She is beautiful and in my eyes the epitome of a very sexy abd great lingerie model. That lingerie hugs her curves beautifully.

  3. FD,

She looks gorgeous.. We have a department store in the UK who has become the first to use size 16 mannequins.

  4. She looks gorgeous although I must say she doesn't look a size 16. I know because I'm a 14 and she is smaller than me. It is nice to see more fuller figured women because most of us are in that later category. As for a "minus" girl modeling bras - they would have very little to put into them. Of course, today's bras don't need anything to fill them - they stand alone. lol

  5. I agree that she is not a size 16, I could see her being a 10.

Women have curves and it would be nice if media would reflect that.

Oh and, I think it's awful when a girls thighs are no thicker than her calves... Just saying :)

  6. Fortunately, attitudes are changing. I for one have lusted after larger women ever since I was a teen. And I married one too :)

  7. Well, I am a size 16/almost 14 myself, and I have to admit, I do agree with you, but, in this example, the model does have a very thin face, making you think she isn't as round as she is.
That being said, she is beautiful, and still more fit than many skinnier women I know.

  8. Dang...Twiggy and fashion designers have a lot to answer for! To say nothing of ad agencies...hopefully this is the start of turning things around! She is absolutely beautiful and IMO, not a plus size!

    Blessings...

  9. Curvy and/or bigger women are sexy. I don't like women to be sticks and bones - if I wanted that I would have married myself. If there's more to a woman there's more to love :)

  10. I've seen these before and it's about time normal women were represented like these pictures show. I am a size 14 bottom half and a size 16 top half which makes clothes buying very difficult. But I think that in the UK our sizes are very different to yours aren't they?

My husband always says that he would never want to hug a "bag of bones". Thank goodness!

  13. Thanks for posting this, Florida Dom. It's about time people realize the skinny models and actresses every girl strives to look like are not normal. I agree she does look smaller than a size 16, I'd say more like a 12ish. She looks great!

  15. Thank You so much for posting this. i am 5'1" tall and currently weigh 173 pounds. i have fought with my body image forever, i do not like what i see in the mirror. Although i am working hard to change it, it took years of abuse to get where i am today, i know it will take years to try to repair. i do not think i will ever be comfortable unclothed as i will never be tiny again.

  16. Sorry I didn't respond earlier but try to be more positive about your body image. I am sure you Master likes you unclothed. It doesn't matter if you're not tiny. Don't let society define you. Good luck in dealing with your body image. Hope Master gives you positive feedback.
