R.I.P.

This is not an easy post to write. My mother passed away early Tuesday at age 98.
She did live a long, productive, long life but it is still difficult to know your parents are both gone. My dad died in 1990 and I still think of things I want to tell him if he were here.
I will be leaving for Michigan in a few hours for the viewing on Friday and the funeral on Saturday. It will be an emotional time.
In my last post in early October -- I have to do a better job of blogging -- I talked about visiting her and my sister. It turns out that day she went to the hospital suffering from pneumonia. At least I got a chance to visit her in the hospital for a few days in what amounted to say goodbye. Although she did return home for a while, she spent her last days getting good care at a hospice facility.
For those bloggers who have lost both their parents, you understand how I am feeling these days.
I am left with a lot of wonderful memories that I will always cherish.

FD.

  1. Hi FD,

I am so very sorry for your loss. Losing our parents is heartbreaking, no matter when, or under what circumstances. I do understand. I lost my mom just about a year ago, and my dad just seven months before that. It is a very hard part of life...

I'm glad that you have a lot of special memories to keep with you. I hope that they are a comfort to you in the days ahead. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Sending you hugs,

  5. I am sorry for your loss. I send you hugs. I am sure that both your parents are proud of the man you have become. It may be hard to do today, but I hope that you soon remember them with a smile on your face, knowing that both of your parents were unique individuals who helped to shape you into the man you are today. Although I did not know her, I will also venture to say that she led a beautiful life that touched many people in ways that you may never know and was blessed with many more years than most of us are given. My son past away three years ago. Buring him was the hardest thing I ever done. My thoughts will be with you.

    1. I found out at the funeral how many people she touched over the years. And so sorry that you lost your son. I think having to bury one of your children is one of the most difficult things any of us can face.

  10. I lost my mom 13 years ago and dad 11. It seems like forever. But no matter our age you tend to feel a little like an orphan. I'm glad you got to see your mom just last month. I'm glad she got to see you too 'cause mama's always love seeing their babies.

  13. FD,
It hurts my heart to say....but I am in that group. No more parents, and I still feel too damn young to say that. It is a unique situation to be in. The grief over losing your mom will compete with your disbelief that they are both gone.....it's a tough one to wrap your head around.

I hope these next few days are filled with shared memories and stories that will help carry you to a brighter day! Take care.
