How do you look?

Here's an interesting N.Y. Times story about a Dove soap video. The premise is that a woman describe herself to an artist, who draws a picture of her. Then somebody else describes her to the artist and he draws another picture.

When they put them side by side, the woman looks better in the drawing made by the other person describing her.

The point is that women tend to be too critical of themselves. Women need to be more self confident about their image. If you feel good about yourself, you project a positive image. Here's the link:

  1. It's pretty powerful, yet not surprising. As a woman I know only too well how critical we are of ourselves.

  3. It means little unless you compare it by doing the same experiment with men. Or with having the 2nd half of the experiment using a very critical person describing the first subject. The sample size was very small and excluded outliers. There are too many variables to draw a valid conclusion, so this becomes just another advertising gimmick to sell products.

    1. Yes, not a scientific study and they are trying to sell a product, but it did have the ring of truth.

    1. Not surprising she talks about it because it does seem true.

  5. What an interesting study.. and how sad that women generally don't know how beautiful they really are.
Thanks for posting this. I wish more younger girls could see this and understand.. but I think that understanding comes with age~

  6. Anonymous it wasn't a scientific experiment so of course there was no control group. It was for the purpose of selling a product. However, it's going in a admirable direction. A direction that we need to go in...
