I don't know if we have any readers from Philadelphia, but it's always been one of my favorite cities even if it does have something of an edgy reputation. After all, the Eagles' fans once booed Santa Claus.
I was reminded of this during a visit this week when I saw a billboard on 95 from a jeweler trying to sell engagement rings. So was it a warm, fuzzy ad? Naw, not in Philly. Instead it showed a woman with a annoyed look on her face holding up her ringless finger. The finger appeared to be several feet high. The caption, "She's tired of waiting.''
This got me thinking. Did any of our readers have to prod the man in their life to pop the question or even do it themselves? I thought it'd be fun if anyof you want to share any interesting popping the question stories.
The ball is in your court.

Hmmmm... did I prod Nick to propose. Evidently not. He never really did propose, I'm still waiting. I mean yes we're married and everything he just never proposed.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
PK
PK: I guess Nick is the strong silent type.
ReplyDeleteFD
Hey FD, hope everything is going well for you.
ReplyDeleteSame as PK, P never proposed to me, it just happened.
Love.

xx
Ronnie: Thanks for your concern. Yes, things are going well. And I didn't realize there would be two couples who didn't have a formal proposal. Are there any more out there who had the same experience?
ReplyDeleteWell I got a formal proposal, in an Italian restaurant...but that Ad...OMG I've seen it. It's awful!
ReplyDeleteFunny.. I've been married twice and neither man actually did a formal proposal~
ReplyDeleteI suspect it would have been fun.
I'm a romantic at heart.
And yes, I've seen that billboard on 95 and it is horrid!
Sara and Nancy: I'm glad you both saw the billboard and agree that it was unreal. I'd like to know what impact it had on the jeweler's business. I assume he thinks it'd be good for business but I wonder what he was thinking.
ReplyDeleteAnd Nancy, you're the leader with two marriages without a proposal. Maybe this is more common than I thought.

D. and I had lived together on and off for 10 years; at various times, one or othe other of us brought up the thought of marriage but neither one of us was pushed. When we moved yet again and were heading to a new city, new province, I was 26 - at that point said I thought we might as well get married now and we did - a month later (3 weeks to call the bans, married the 4th weekend). not sure if that was "formal" but it resulted in marraige LOL
ReplyDeletejust wanted to add - I HAD received two other FORMAL marriage proposals in between breakups with D. - but turned them down obviously!
ReplyDeleteSelkie: Thanks for sharing your experiences. Interesting that you got two formal proposals that you turned down. I thought most guys don't propose until they're pretty sure they'll get a yes answer.

Geez Guys!! I'm here to add some traditional romance to these answers. We were young. I'm talking 17 & 18 when we first went out. After four months Greg asked me to marry him. Twice! Each time I said yes. The first proposal was without a ring & the second was in a beautiful restaurant. His proposal seemed so to be the most natural thing in the world. Still grinning ;) Thanks for the memory lane stroll FD. Now I'm wondering about your's!!
ReplyDeleteFun: What a wonderful romantic tale, especially for teen-agers. You both must have been mature for your age. Congrats.
ReplyDeleteAnd as far as my story, I botched it up so badly that I hate to get into it. It was the summer of 68 -- a terrible year in the country, the King and Kennedy killings, the riots, Vietnam -- but we were young and in love and had a trip planned to Martha's Vineyard where I planned to pop the question. And then I blurted it out a couple months before the trip. Such a klutz. She has no memory of it. But we did have a great trip to Martha's Vineyard (nothing like making out on a deserted beach when you're young))and 40 years later, here we are.

New reader, and I also live in the Philly area. I've seen the billboards with the "Philly atty-tude" - very clever!
