I suggest you read this link to a blog entitled, "Some real Shock and Awe: Racially profiled and cuffed in Detroit.''
It is about a n Arab looking woman traveling on 9/11 sitting in a row with two men she didn't know who were Indian and what happened to them when somebody said they were acting suspiciously.
It makes me wonder if we haven't if we haven't overreacted to the tragedy of 9/11.
Read the blog and tell me what you think.

It's sad that people are judged based on the color of their skin or their ethnicity.
ReplyDeleteI kept imagining if that were me and how violated I'd feel being put in a jail cell and made to strip naked like that.

The terror attack did what it was intended to do. Now, 10 years latter, we are still afraid.
ReplyDeleteKitty: It is sad that we profile people based on the color of their skin or their ethnicity.
ReplyDeleteDragon's Rose: Yes, we are still afraid. And why are we so afraid? Look at how the British were stalwart during the blitz in WWII. And it's not like we are in danger of of being invaded or occupied or losing our way of life. And yet in being afraid, we give up some of our freedom.

If I presented myself differently; that easily could have been me. I guess I'm of middle eastern background though not Muslim(and really light skinned). I am pretty fluent in Arabic but never speak it in public. I realize in this world we live in there are some risks and I try an safe myself against them. I'm thankful for the security measures that are in place and if that means I have to go through the body scanner I'll do it gladly.
ReplyDeletesickening. there's a lot that goes on that we dont know about, unfortunately.
