The founder of the two piece suit called it a bikini because America conducted its first nuclear tests near the Bikini Islands and he thought the new suit "would cause a similar explosion.''
I find it interesting that while walking the beach, it seems most women under 40 wear bikinis and many of those over 40 prefer the one piece suit.
I've also seen two very pregnant women wearing bikinis recently -- or at least bikinis tops, one of them wore short shorts. I thought it was nice they were comfortable enough to wear them when they appeared to be due in a few weeks.
So I thought it was be interesting to ask our female readers if they like to wear bikinis.

I'm well under 40 and have always preferred one pieces. I go to the beach to swim and play, not to be seen or find guys, so it's easier not to have to worry about where my parts are and how they look. That said, it's hard to find cute one pieces, which I think is why a lot of younger people don't wear them. I often wear tankinis, which is like a bikini except covers the tummy, too, like a tank top, because I can find them in cute styles and colors.
ReplyDeleteBikini tops with board shorts. Especially nice so I don't have to worry about wedgies lol.
ReplyDeleteAmber: Your comment that you go to the beach to swim and play and not to be seen or find guys could be a topic in itself. Do more women go to swim and play? Or to be seen and find guys? Good question. Also interesting that you can't find cute one piece suits. Seems like the designers should put more emphasis on making better one piece suits.

I hate to wear bikinis or bathing suits. I prefer cut off shorts and a tee shirt. bathing suits of any variety feel like walking around in my bra and panties, in front of complete strangers. Horrifying. I'm sure I have childhood issues or something. Or else just super modest.

After 20 years of wearing a one piece due to body issues after having 3 kids I am back to wearing bikinis. The only reason why I might cover up these days is if we have had a heavy session as I am not keen to share my cane or flogger marks with the world...

K: I can understand if you are more comfortable in shorts and a tee shirt, but does that mean you don't go into the water or swim? Or do you swim in shorts and a tee shirt?
ReplyDeleteVelvet: I was curious why you went back to bikinis but I can certainly understand you don't want to share your flogger marks with the world. Are you proud of your marks in private?

I use to wear bikinis when I had the figure for them but these days when I do put on a swim suit (and being in the Midwest, I'm not close to the much water) it is a one piece with tummy control. LOL But if I ever get my figure back, I'll be back in a bikini.

I'll swim in a bathingsuit. Then pull on some shorts after. I love the ocean. Modesty takes second seat to that:)
ReplyDeleteI went back to bikini's for two reasons.
ReplyDelete1) because I am tall and it is incredible difficult to find one that fits me well
2) Someone made me feel good about myself and realise that when it comes to stretch marks and the rest of it all 'people that matter don't mind, and people that mind don't matter'
Hugs,
Velvet
And yes I LOVE my cane marks, and the longer they last the better =)

I do love bikinis and used to wear them to the beach but now I only wear them around the pool when on holiday.

I actually prefer a cute one piece swim suit and Old Navy has a few this year, however, Chess prefers bikini's so to compromise I wear a bikini top with board shorts over the bottoms (the shorts on the bottom make me feel more modest). It's probably good I went with a bikini since I'm pregnant anyway. And I have no problem showing off my pregnant belly. Didn't have a problem the first time, won't have a problem this time. I'm not one to lie out, or walk around in my swimsuit though. If I'm not going in the water (or already in the water, obviously) then I pull on a tank top. I see no reason to be so scantily clad if all I'm doing is playing on the beach and not in the water.
ReplyDeleteHeather: Good luck on getting you figure back.
ReplyDeleteK: Nice you put your time in the ocean over your modesty.
Velvet: Love your line that the people who matter don't mind and the people who mind don't matter. Great philosophy for life in general. And I thought you would be proud of your marks. Do they last long?
Ronnie: Nice you still wear them at the pool.
Alice: Good you don't have any problem showing off your pregnant belly. And nice you compromise with Chess.

Depends on the implement, and the delivery spot...

Velvet: Can you share with us what is the best implement and delivery sport for making marks. And from you grin, you really seem to like them.

I vote for the tankini... One pieces are a pain if you have to use the restroom! And I'm way too fair for a bikini nothing like getting a crazy sunburn on my tummy ;( been there done that not interested in going back!! Lol
ReplyDeleteBut I must admit a one piece might be smarter if you are going to play in the waves... I've had my cute top come completely off! My hubby was watching me struggle under the waves to get it back up, laughing his ass off!!!
I'd love to wear a bikini again. But I'm not showing off my fat. My hope is that someday I will wear one again. I used to love them.
