Lobster Feast

I love lobster and the fish store near me has started selling them on occasion $5 cheaper when they decide to steam them than when they sell them live. It's crazy that they do the work of cooking them (hate putting the live lobsters in the boiling water) and then sell them cheaper. I guess maybe they have too many that didn't sell live and need to cook them. So I just have to bring them home and take them out of the shells and saute or microwave them to warm them up.

Needless to say, whenever they have the sign up that they are selling the steamed ones, I usually stop by. So today, I've had lobsters for both lunch and dinner. Hmmmmm.

Don't know if we have any other lobster lovers out there but if you are, you know I am having a good day. I can really think of only one thing I love the taste of better. I'll leave that to your imagination.

  3. Lobster is my favorite, but I rarely get it now living in the south. But when I visit relatives up north I gorge myself on it. I love it straight out of the shell dipped in butter or in a lobster roll. Enjoy, I am jealous!

  4. I've never had lobster so I have no idea whatsoever what it tastes like. Since it's not on the dollar menu at fast food restaurants it's unlikely that I'll ever find out. But glad you're enjoying it!:)

I know, that was quite naughty of me;).

  6. FD,

From one lobster lover to another, there aren't too many things that taste better :):):)

It's just one of the benefits we have here up in New England!

  8. Abby: Maine is a great place to live for a lobster lover.

sunnygirl: Dessert is more lobster. LOL.

Holly: I live in the south and the fish store has lobster all the time although I prefer it when it is on sale.

t1klish: Sorry your budget doesn't include lobster. Be nice if you could visit a Red Lobster for a special occasion.

Kitty: I like you being naughty.

Suzanne: Yes, New Englanders know their lobster.

    Ronnie: Yes, it is delicious.

  10. Sure, leave that to our imagination. Like the facr when they are thrown in hot water they hiss terribly out of the pain. But of course, provided your cannible voracious gluttony is satisfied...who gives about the fact you are killing and torturing living beings? Yeah. Well done, cannibal.

  11. Oh: and yes, you asked for "lobster lovers out there" and I am one of them. I suggest you check the verb 'to love' in some dictionary. That sheer action may open up a window of knowledge and you might even get to understand the difference between "love" and "destroy". Cause YES! THERE IS one!! (I know, you couldn't have imagined...)

  13. Sara: Yes, Sara, two meals are better than one.

Anon: You are entitled to your point of view but why hide behind Anon.

Nancy: I am surprised they sell them cheaper after steaming them but I am not going to complain.

  14. BLEH!!

My guess is (having worked in a seafood place despite hating seafood when I was 19) that they are selling cheaper because once they are cooked, they have a shelf life, so they need to rid themselves of them. And yes, they likely cooked them because they had too many in the tank. Once they die naturally, you can't eat them.

  15. ps, they don't hiss terribly out of pain. LOL. That is air being released from their shells. Their nervous systems are so primitive, and not only that, throw any living thing in boiling water and they die instantly.

No time to 'hiss', or scream as some claim. They have no vocal cords. Some people would do good to look up the anatomy of the lobster before claiming such.

Mmmmmmm, animals taste good. :-D (tho not lobsters.....don't like seafood!)

  17. FD,

it is not often that you get flamed, smart man for keeping it and allowing contrary views on your blog.

Can't say I am enthused about lobster, isn't it rather fiddly for little reward? Or is that crab? I was once given a bag of crabs as a gift for being an esteemed guest. I think putting them into boiling water was preferable to drowning them in salt or was it fresh water? It was quite a difficult time for a woman with no experience of crustaceans.

  18. Doll: I don't have much experience with crabs but the key to eating lobster is to get lobster shears that make it easier for them to cut the shells open. And I don't mind contrary views although kind of tacky to do it Anon and then Sarah was kind enough to refute Anon's points.
