Unbelieveable

Check out this story. A woman is raped in Pakistan and goes to jail for having sex outside of marriage and the only way she gets out is marry her attacker.

Here's the link:

And aren't they suppose to be an ally of ours?

How can this happen in the 21st century?

  1. I know the christian bible says similar for rules on rape. I know nothing about the Quran though, but they are behind the times in how they treat women. Part of why they are a 3rd world country.

  2. Unbelievable doesn't even begun to cut it. Of course, any country or religion that treats their procreation source as second class citizens is ludicrous to the max.

  3. It's a religeous thing. And truly sad when people follow blindly the teachings/scriptures.

It's in the Christian bible too. Deuteronomy 22:28-29.

It's another reason mouse is atheist.

  4. FD. This happens more than we hear about. During my two years living in the Middle East, the local newspapers frequently reported stonings of women who had been raped and because they were married at the time if the rape, and had sex outside their marriage, they were stoned. Sometimes the stonings resulted in death. Unbelievable, but true. It is very sad.

so many injustices against women. I think mostly due to religious fanaticism.

Thank you for shedding light on this tragedy.

    Take care. Sky

  5. FD,

That's truly terrible. I've heard of similar stories before so I wasn't too surprised.

As for it being in the Bible, that section is speaking of ceremonial laws that were used when the Israelites left Egypt under the leadership of Moses. It was to protect the woman, since women didn't really have a way of supporting themselves at that time in history.

God had many rules and customs for the Israelites to follow that make sense. For instance circumcision was always to be done on the 8th day. Science has shown that was the ideal time to do that procedure. There are many other things that are good ideas, but not required. For instance, not eating pork or unclean meats is really better for your health.

  6. Kitty,
Being forced to marry your rapist is not my idea of protection.

I'm with mouse, this is one of many reasons I am an atheist.

  8. Autumn,

I don't disagree with you about having to marry one's rapist. I would hate to do that!

Of course you're entitled to your beliefs, but I am, also. I still love and believe in God, even if I don't understand why a "traffic law" was in place thousands of years ago.
