The title is probaby not what you think it is.
I'm talking about watching the Bachelor or Bachelorette. I know it's a waste of time and I can't watch the whole thing but I'm attracted like a moth to a flame to the last 15 minutes of the last few episodes when somebody is sent home. These people barely know each other and it's in a very artificial setting but yet they act as if they're heartbroken when they're sent home.
And at the end, the final two act as if they've found the love of their lives although the relationships never seem to last despite the fact the last couple are still together. In the latest one, Jilian had three men madly in love with her in just such a short time. And she seems to happy with the one she picked but you wonder how long it'll last in the real world.
Do any of the readers watch the show (my wife makes fun at me for checking it out) and do you think the latest couple have any chance of making it in the real world?
Your thoughts?

I will admit that I watched about the 1st 3 seasons then I got mad and bored when the relationships never went anywhere...
ReplyDeletei dont watch the show but, i think its hysterical that my husband does the same thing. Checks out the last 15 minutes of most reality shows, just to see who's sent home. I find it hard to watch the shows because i get embarrassed for the contestants on the shows. i end up feeling bad, while He's laughing. lol
ReplyDeleteSorry FD, don't have it here in the UK.
ReplyDeleteSounds a bit like our Big Brother show.

Complicated: Yes, once it became obvious the relationhips didn't last, the show lost much of its allure. But I still enjoy the endings.
ReplyDeleteLost: So I guess your husband and I have the same idea. As far as feeling bad, some people just love being on TV so they should know what they're getting into. What puzzles me is why all these good looking people need a TV show to find a relationship.
Ronnie: As far as people being voted off, it's somewhat similiar to Big Brother, which I rarely watch. Bachelor or Bachelorette start with 25 contestants and usually about 10 are vote off the first night. Talk about first impressions. Then they whittle it down each week. I'm surprised there's not a British version of the show.
One of the current house guests of Big Brother is a guy that I went to high school with. My brother told me that he was on it and downloaded an episode so I could see for myself. All the reality shows are hard for me to watch, though I have tuned in to see the very end of them on occasion. I think the only one I've seen from beginning to end was Survivor the first season. But all the back stabbing and just plain meaness towards each other turned me off of them.
ReplyDeleteMeasha: I also stopped wathing Survivor and never have watched Big Brother. I remain puzzled why they're so popular. But they're cheap for the networks to put on so as long as there's an audience, they'll stay on.

I am the total opposite. I used to watch Big Brother, but none of the others. At least with Big Brother, it is understood that they are on camera 24/7 (you can even get the entire live feed, apparently). I've never understood the popularity of the Bachelor/Bachelorette because it seems impossible for them to be themselves on the show. Like, there's a camera in their face while they're on those dates, so they're not going to act naturally.
ReplyDeleteMy two cents. :)
Good points Laur. It's not surprising the relationships don't last on the Bachelor because the cameras create artificial situations.

Frankly I got turned off watching Jillian wk by wk but I did watch the last show to see whom she selected. And you're right FD, how could she possibly know if she's in love or not! From the inception of the Bachelor and Bachelorette shows, the favorite was the gal who married the fireman and glad to see their marriage has lasted and they have 2 kids! I do not watch the other reality shows other than Dancing with the Stars!
