Sexual Orientation

In her new book, "You Lie About Your Age, the Terrorists Win,'' comedian and author Carol Leifer says she didn't realie she was a lesbian until she was 40.

"I really didn't have any clue, and in fact, had very good physical relationships with men It was around when I turned 40 that I had this intense desire to have an affair with a woman,'' he said.

She said she was surprised it led to her falling in love with her partner, Lori.

I know some women don't turn to lesbian relationships until they've been married but I always thought they had inclinations that they were denying.

Also, she had an interesting comment about the difference in relationships between a man and a woman and two women that seems to ring true.

"In my relationships with men,, whenever a woman says we have to sit down and talk, the walls come up and the guy freaks out. With two women, it's like, "Hey, let's pop the champagne.'' We could go all night talking. Talking is never a problem. In fact, it can get to be too much because it's two verbal people,'' she said.

This sounds like the old Mars-Venus thing with women feeling they're not getting enough communication with the man in their lives.

Your thoughts?

  1. I must say the communication in our marriage increased considerably after we began using DD. Lash knows I'm not on the attack when we talk and he feels more sure of himself talking about intimate things. Meow

  2. You'd think someone would know early on whether or not the the thought of sticking their tongue into a woman's naughty parts turned you them on or off.

  3. FD,
Although my sexual orintation is hetrosexual I know that my friendships with women and the closeness I feel to my female friends is a very powerful thing in my life. There is no sexual attraction but the emotional attachment is strong.

  4. I have a friend who has just turned 50, has been married twice and is now the happiest she has ever been, married to a women for the last 5 years. She was telling me she has always had inclinations but always denied it.

I'm the same as PK, my friendship with women is powerful and emotional but not sexual. The bond between women is strong.

  5. Meow: It's a plus that DD has helped your communication.

Dante: I had the same thought. I can understand a woman denying her true feelings, but it would seem to be unusual to suddenly discover those feeings at 40.

PK: I can understand two women having a strong emotional attraction that is not sexual.

Ronnie: Your example, I think, is more common. Your friend had the inclination but denied it. And, yes, the bond between women is strong. It seems that women often have stronger bonds than men do.
