Turkey Day

I am always interested in traditions.

How many of you will have turkey on Thanksgiving Day . If so, do you like turkey or it is just a tradition. If not do you prefer another food?

Are you spending it with relatives? Traveling or home?

And do you watch football on Turkey Day?

Thanks for sharing and Happy Thanksgiving everyone. And may you and yours have a good day and hope you can have some play time.

  1. I'll be spending the day with a young mixed Japanese family, the son of an old family friend, who live locally. Three seniors, 4 younger adults and 5/6 children.
There will be turkey but I am a vegetarian, so lots of roasted vegetables for me. The Japanese influence on the meal should be interesting.
I am sure there will be football, just as there is turkey, it is tradition.

Best wishes for a wonderful Thanksgiving to everyone.

  2. My family is mostly vegetarian, so no turkey. We also don't do tofurky, because, well, it's kinda gross. All fake meat isn't gross, but that one is. So, we usually do pirogies because it's an old family recipe and we all love it. Personally, I'm totally psyched about our Thanksgiving meal. Looking forward to it!

  3. The Thanksgiving meal at my house is very traditional. It has not varied much at all in my lifetime (52 years) We will have turkey and all the trimmings. I will be spending it with family and a few friends. May you have a Happy Thanksgiving too!

  4. David: Enjoy the roasted veggies and the Japanese influence should be interesting.

Amber: Pirogies for Thanksgiving is certainly an interesting choice. Good to hear you are psyched and looking forward to the meal.

Anon: A tradition of half a century is special.

  5. When my son was 2, I decided all holidays were not to be spent at granny's. I chose Thanksgiving. Our tradition is a huge breakfast with everything imaginable. Afterwards, I would throw the turkey in the oven and we made our Christmas ornaments for the year as we watched the parade. After lunch, we decorated the tree and house for Christmas.

You can imagine my joy when Boy and Girl decided that Thanksgiving breakfast was the one tradition that would always be mine.

I can't wait til they get here tomorrow!

  6. My memories are of Thanksgiving at my aunts. My grandmother would be there too but my aunt was the center of the family in my mind. She died the fall after Nick and I were married. We tried Thanksgiving for maybe two years after her death but it wasn't right. My parents and other aunts and uncles began going out to eat on Thanksgiving and we began going to Nick's folks. That where we go every year and all my kids know. They are 87 and 90 don't know how long we'll go but as long as we can.

  7. I've been having this conversation (aka whining) to my hubby all day. I HATE turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans, pumpkin and pecan pie, and cranberry sauce. So basically I eat only dinner rolls at a Thanksgiving table. It's funny cause I'm really not a picky eater whatsoever but all my least favorite foods are all centered on this one holiday.

Basically my ideal Thanksgiving involves Ihop pancakes or tacos. Mmmmmmm tacos.

  9. No turkey, no football. My sister "does" Thanksgiving, I do Christmas. She likes to cook and thinks turkey is boring. This year, both my daughter and I are vegetarian, so she's doing something with shrimp. Yum.

And we just don't have any football fans in the family. My Sir likes football, but He'll be working...

Hope you have a wonderful day!

  10. Happy Thanksgiving! Hope you have a wonderful day. This year we will be spending it at home. First time in a long time. Looking forward to fixing the turkey and all the trimmings. And R is especially looking forward to the homemade pumpkin pie.

We use to go to my Grandmother's each year and fix Thanksgiving for her but she passed this September. She'll be greatly missed.

    Hugs,

  11. We have done turkey many times, but this year we're doing an Italian-flavored Thanksgiving. Lasagna, meatballs, cannoli for dessert...I'm getting hungry just thinking about it!

  12. We are traveling to be with family... my brother is making a Turdunken with all the other traditional fixin's....

You gotta have plenty of food to keep everybody busy or everybody would have nothing to do but fight!! LOL

    Happy Thanksgiving!!!

  14. My family likes to eat Thanksgiving at 2pm, so I wake up at 4:30 a.m. and start the turkey. Today I prepare most of the traditional casseroles and bake the pies.

I mostly eat raw food, but it doesn't bother me to prepare and cook the food for everyone else.

I have made a nice cranberry and edamame salad for me :)

I hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving, Florida Dom!

    Take care, Sky

  15. I love the turkey dinner, stuffing, biscuits, pumpkin pie, the whole thing. And football. But I have to work so won't be doing any of it this year.

  16. We really don't have any traditions. Sometimes we have family and friends and sometimes we are the visiting family and friends. Tomorrow we are having a quiet day at home - we're having turkey-breast only -even though my husband is an ass man. We're not big turkey eaters but it seems sacriligeous(sp) to not cook turkey on Thanksgiving.
    Happy Turkey Day

  19. FD,

I don't eat turkey (I eat vegan usually, but tomorrow will just be eating vegetarian). Our family will be at home with extended family, also...20+ people this year.

Some will watch football, but not me, lol!

We have a huge feast with everything made completely from scratch...besides a hickory smoked turkey we'll have cornbread dressing, candied yams, creamy mashed potatoes, homemade noodles, butterflake rolls, cranberry salad, Greek salad with feta cheese, assorted veggie dishes, and dessert...homemade pies (last year we had 9) and to top it off, ice-cream.

Happy Thanksgiving to you, too! Will you be eating a traditional meal, also?

    Love,
    Kitty

  20. I shall grill a turkey, and a roasting chicken. We use to change up on the meat menu, but after I figure out how to grill a perfect moist turkey, it is a request now. It's funny, I watched a program on the History channel today, it focused on what Thanksgiving really was. I'm not going to get into all that, but one interesting thing shocked me. Turkey wasn't on the list of foods for any of the early Thanksgivings.

  21. Anon: how nice that Boy and Girl have decided that Thanksgiving Breakfast will be your tradition.

PK: Let's hope you will be going many more years.

Mockingbird: How ironic that your least favorite foods are centered on one holiday.

LittleOne: Thank you for the best wishes.

beingaisha: Enjoy the shrimp and sorry your Sir has to work.

Heather1: I am sure you will miss your Grandmother. Enjoy the turkey and trimmings and the homemade pumpkin pie.

Jake: An Italian flavored Thanksgiving sounds tasty.

Mikki: Good to avoid the fighting. Sometimes Thanksgiving isn't always a Norman Rockwell portrait.

Ronnie: Thanks for thinking of us even though you don't celebrate Thanksgiving across the pond.

Sky: How thoughtful of you to prepare all the food for everyone else even though you mostly eat raw food.

t1klish: Sorry you have to work.

sunnygirl: Hope you enjoy your quiet day at home.

faerie: Enjoy the quiet day and the turkey and football.

SBF: Thank you and i hope you have a happy holiday.

Kitty: Yes, I will be eating the traditional meal with friends. And sounds like you are having quite a feast.

1manview: Interesting that turkey wasn't on the menu for the early Thanksgivings.

And Happy Thanksgiving to you all.
